Stop the trolls in their tracks! How to protect your copyright in Canada

ATTENTION : Cette activité se déroulera en FRANÇAIS / This activity will be conducted in FRENCH.

This presentation explores how an owner can protect its copyrights in Canada. While copyright arises automatically from the creation of works, taking proactive steps, such as copyright registration, offers authors essential additional protections against infringement and litigation.

We will examine and demonstrate, step-by-step, the copyright registration process in Canada. We will explain the advantages of registration, such as the presumption of copyright ownership in legal disputes. This presentation will explain how a copyright owner can deal with seemingly “whack-a-mole” situations such as “copyright trolls.” We’ll look at remedies for copyright infringement and their limitations, such as the notice regime, and notice for infringement situations and when to invoke the remedies available on sites like Amazon, Facebook and YouTube.

*A certificate of attendance will automatically be sent to attendees 7 to 10 days after the date of the event.
