ROBIC APPLAUDS THE GENEROSITY AND INGENUITY OF ITS CLIENTS

HERE IS THE STORY OF CAN-EXPLORE!

Can-Explore leverages its expertise to innovate in times of crisis without losing sight of the company’s purpose and raison d’être.

“With the closure of all so-called ’non-essential’ businesses,” said Louis Légaré-Lapointe, president of Can-Explore, “our operations have almost been shut down. We then looked at how we could help the company. It’s important to do our part and contribute to the collective well-being.” Can-Explore was founded in 2014 and specializes in the inspection of infrastructures, structures, and buildings, as well as geomatics, where innovation is at the heart of each department, explains Mr. Légaré-Lapointe.

After having found a design for parts and acetate sheets in sufficient quantity, the team chose to use the company’s two 3D printers to produce face shields. Although their production was limited with two printers, Can-Explore was able to produce 250 face shields, or 8 to 10 units per printer, per day, for several weeks. “The goal was to do our best!” said Mr. Légaré-Lapointe.

They had to overcome several challenges, such as the supply of elastics which has been insufficient in the face of high demand. Mr. Légaré-Lapointe added: “Next, we had to manage the logistics for printing the face shields, which was done in the homes of two designers, so we had to organize production and delivery while respecting health protocols.”

Despite these challenges, Can-Explore managed to make the National Capital and Chaudière-Appalaches region hospitals very happy by distributing face shields to its healthcare personnel. According to Mr. Légaré-Lapointe, this contribution was received with great appreciation from the hospitals in these regions team.

In addition to developing face shields to compensate for this slow period during which a large portion of the Can-Explore team had to be temporarily laid off, the president explained that he made drones, vehicles and tanker trucks available to the government. He said that in the end it was not necessary, but the intention was well received. Louis Légaré-Lapointe enthusiastically stated that “Everyone came out of it proud and the company did its part as a corporate citizen. It allowed us to rally the team.”

The president explained that in a situation like this, it is tempting to take risks in developing new products and solutions and consider new approaches for the company. However, despite the desire to embark on a wide range of projects, the importance of staying focused became paramount for this innovative company. Mr. Légaré-Lapointe confidently added that the team remained focused on its mission while fulfilling its duties as a corporate citizen, leading to an excellent outcome.

The COVID-19 experience

The lesson learned from Can-Explore’s experience is clear: continue to innovate in times of crisis without losing sight of the company’s purpose and raison d’être. Although opportunities may seem tempting, Can-Explore’s goal is to remain aligned with our values and mission. “Never lose sight of who we are.” is the motto that drives the entire Can-Explore team.

As for the future, the company is counting on the growth of a winning team, the consolidation of its relationships and achieving an ultimate goal: to be present on every continent by 2032.
